Us Others

Spring 2025

'Us Others' is a seven-minute performance that debuted at MICA’s 31st Annual Benefit Fashion Show in Falvey Hall. Three members of a race of ‘generalized others,’ ‘Blobby,’ ‘The White Lotus,’ and ‘The Human Porcupine’ played by Sari Langholt, Nat Scott, and Kai Nunnally respectively, navigate a tension between reclaimation, conformity, and commodifying the self amidst alienation and isolation. Through an act of solidarity, they overthrow the three-headed politician, depicted by Loulie Rossmassler, Clara Kuehnel, and Sofia Zapatero, and reveal the creatures beneath this position of unchecked power.

An adaptation was performed in a Benefit show fundraising for Gaza at Le Mondo. In this iteration, Baltimore drag performers, Galacticgasm, Dylan Decay, and Oxidized Penny filled the role of the ‘generalized others’ and the added character of Colombia, played by Martin Knuppel took the stage with their lover, Uncle Sam Pinata. The Uncle Sam Pinata was made in a series of builds I hosted with Maryland Organizers and Activists.

Sound was created by Sofia Zapatero and with quotes from Audre Lorde. Photos by Alaina Lurry, and Dani Lopez.
